Memorial Day 2026 in a small town…

As is the custom of Legion Post 137 of Hooker Oklahom, the local cemetery is decorated with “Casket” flags, some 128 of them, donated by the families of deceased local veterans.

Normally this task falls to an aging group of local veterans, but this year the members of the Loyal Doers 4H Club under the direction of sponsor Brad James, himself a veteran, stepped up to the task. The “aging group of local veterans” (of which I am one) very much appreciate their efforts. They didn’t come to watch, they came to do.

In further regnition of Memorial Day, The Legion Post provides a Color Guard and Firing Squad for ceremonies the Hooker Cemetary and also at the Tyrone Oklahoma Cemetary. We are privileged to have Taps performed by our own bugler, another veteran, Douglas Honeman.

Lest we forget…
