A Parable of a PILOT CAR….

Pilot Truck

Coming home from a dental appointment in Garden City Kansas I chanced upon some road construction. I knew it was there as I had driven through it headed North just a few hours before.

But this time I was honored to be first in line as the flag person stopped the southbound traffic.

I knew it would be quite a wait.

So what does one do with all this time on their hands? One could get out and walk around, I’ve seen people do that. I thought about visiting with some of the other folks in my now growing line, but decided against it. What if there was some really angry person who was having a really bad day and now road construction? And what if they decided to take out their anger on me? One can’t be too careful these days, right?  Anyway, they would probably think I was the crazy one.

I could have read from Mollie Hemingway’s great new book Alito which I have on Kindle and am really enjoying, but that very worthwhile thought didn’t occur to me until later.

So I just sat there doing some thinking, just letting my mind wonder which can be a dangerous enterprise. My car radio was tuned to KJIL Christian radio, so in my thinking, I had the benefit of being edified by the testimony of many of the fine Christian artists.

This went on for quite some time.

Then in the distance I spotted the pilot car slowly moving in my direction.

And then it got to us. And we waited, and waited and waited some more as all the vehicles going the other way slowly passed by as we…you guess it…waited!

And then finally it happened! The pilot truck turned around and his large orange sign said, “PILOT CAR FOLLOW  ME!”  And we did…slowly

And I thought, that’s what we all need in life, a pilot car and a sign!

Then I realized that I in fact have a pilot car and a sign, it’s the Bible and I do my best with the “FOLLOW ME” part. In many places you know, it says exactly that; “FOLLOW ME!”

I tried to not spend a lot of time on the fact that the big orange sign said PILOT CAR, when anyone could see it’s actually a PILOT TRUCK!

There, I hope I’ve helped.
