I found myself reading in Genesis Chapter 11 the other evening. This is a hundred years or so after the flood. As I read, Babel and its tower emerged from the mists of time. As I read, I was able to see similarities to our day.
In verse 3 there was talk of advanced technology. “Let us make better bricks,” they said. And in verse 4 someone came up with the idea of putting their “better bricks” to use building “a tower whose top will reach into the heavens.” And then someone else said “we will make a name for ourselves.”
Now if that name thing isn’t a prideful statement I don’t know what is.
Ɓut don’t take my word for it, read Genesis Chapter 11 for yourself and see how many things remind you of our day. I also highly recommend reading Matthew Henry’s commentary on those verses and get his 17th Century English thoughts on the subject.
Myself, I’m just an old country boy, but it looks to me as if all this AI controversy might just fit neatly within those verses. AI might well be the “better bricks” of our day. How far will the “better bricks” of our day take us? How far did their “better bricks” take them?
How far did they think it would take them? “The sky is the limit” they might have said had they lived out here in the country.
And therein lies the problem.
